What About Materials?
What Materials Do I Need?
- WorldWorks offers a complete breakdown of suggested methods and materials in our FREE and expansive 'Tutorials' section of the website. This area includes both video tutorials and a free "Beginners Guidebook" to cardstock modeling. Go there now by clicking here!
What Is Cardstock and Where Do I Get It?
- Cardstock is a thick white paper typically used for printing greeting cards and or business cards. WorldWorks Games suggests that you purchase 8-1/2 by 11 inch 110lb weight cardstock or 80lb coverstock. This cardstock weight offers the ideal strength for your models. You can purchase cardstock of this weight and size from your local office supply or art store. Some large retail shopping department chains offer this selection in their office supply isles as well. If you cannot find this weight and size of cardstock in your local stores there are many resources available on the internet to order this type of product.
My model is warping how can I stop that?
- A common but easily fixed problem that people run into is warping in their models. The main cause for this warping is too much water content in your chosen glue. Please avoid white glue at all costs. WorldWorks suggests that you purchase a low water content glue pen at your local office supply or craft store. More specifically our gluepen of choice is a brand named the 'UHU Office Pen' (visit our support thread dedicated to finding the right glue here). This pen offers very quick dry times and prevents any warping within your model.
I'm In Europe, What is the Conversion For Paper Weight and Size?
- Here's the metric measurements:
- Weight: 199 g/m3
- Size 216 x 279mm
I've Heard That Cardstock Models Aren't Strong Enough For Gaming. Is This True?
Absolutely NOT! One of the big concerns out there is that cardstock can't take the rigors of gaming. This is an absolute falsehood and one of the great myths about cardstock modeling. From our own experience and the thousands of satisfied WorldWorks customers we can tell you that our models will last you just as long as any gameboard or gaming prop. Once properly constructed and treated with the same respect that you would treat your other gaming props each model piece can easily withstand the wear and tear of your average gaming sessions. Many of our customers have model sets well over two years old that still remain in perfect condition to this day. Of course if something should happen to one of your models all you need to do is simply print another one and off you go! That is the beauty of inexpensive, quick build model sets from WorldWorks.
